Appeal of the Kitchen Island

Known as a luxurious component to a kitchen\dining room the kitchen island is versatile and grand. Having one in my kitchen is not even remotely possible as there is no room but I noticed when viewing the apartment flat that the kitchen had two entrances--one to the dining room area and one from the foyer.

I got to thinking, "Hmmm, what if I blocked off the entrance to the dining room by creating a kitchen island?" It wouldn't be easy to combine a tasteful island counter with a doorway but I might be able to build along the walls. The counter could start midway so it could accommodate 3-4 bar stools and would be about three feet long horizontally. It would cross right along the doorway but it would save a lot of dining space. I could place the knives and other things there. It's something that could be quite awkward though in design.

I've decided on an idea that integrates my eclectic new-lime colour scheme with a minimalist bedroom design. I'm thinking of a low Japanese-style bed frame surrounded by over-sized print pillows and luxurious, thick bed covers. I want a lot of ambient lighting and statues. The Grecian element would be difficult to integrate into something Japanese-modern-eclectic but I may just try to create a Grecian respite in the bedroom and fore-go all other details.

The bedroom I'm less fickle about as less people will be inside the bedroom, although I do plan to add a sofa for our close friends. Our room is luckily big enough to accommodate a large bed, dressers, wall units, a sofa and this IKEA stand up organizer thing I bought (and hate).  It is our largest bedroom so far with two separate closets and a window. I plan to change the light fixture to something more modern and add a book case and some mirrors.
